Trying to be as green as possible!

By News No Comments

We try and be as efficient as possible, reusing where possible and keeping waste to a minimum:

All our saw dust that is produced from cutting logs is collected and used at a local farm for cattle and poultry bedding.

Shards and scraps of wood that are collected when grading logs are netted and sold as economy sticks.

We encourage customers to return builders bags so we can reuse them.  Even though they are classed as ” single trip” bags, we have found they can be used for 3 – 4 times without ripping.

We try to deliver to customers as much as possible as multi-drops not single trips to keep our miles on the road to a minimum.

We have recently upgraded our log processor that has reduced the amount of time it takes to process a load of logs.  We estimate the new machine reduces fuel consumption of our loader and tractor by 25%.

What is Woodsure and Grown In Britain?

By News No Comments

Woodsure, accredited by HETAS, have independently audited our business, how we operate, the processes we use and more importantly the final product we produce.  The logs are tested and checked for size and moisture content.  This has been a rigorous audit and we are very pleased to say that we are Cheshire’s only firewood supplier to date that have obtained such an accreditation.  HETAS are an independent body and also provide specialist skills and training to log burner stove installers and chimney sweeps to ensure they fit and maintain burners correctly.

The Grown In Britain scheme, provides a guarantee that all its firewood has been grown in the UK in accordance with the UK Government Timber Procurement Policy. It promotes a more sustainable future for British woodlands with management of woodlands and guarantees that the timber we as a business is from the UK only.  As many may know many firewood suppliers offer logs from Latvia and alike which we feel really cannot be sustainable.

Fire Pits and Chimineas

By News No Comments

This summer we have been busier than ever supplying customers in Cheshire with seasoned logs for outdoor firepits and alike.

Of recent there has been a huge hike in popularity in outdoor eating and living with pizza ovens, chimineas, and pits all adding warmth and a cooking device to the patio area!

Softwood seems to be most popular for this as it lights quickly, produces quick intense heat which hardwood would achieve but in a longer period of time.  We supply nets of logs to those wanting a cost effective way of getting the outdoor fire lit!

Or why not get stocked up for winter at the same time as well as purchasing a log store to get organised for the winter ahead.

August also sees the arrival of us being able to take card payments over the phone and order online, all in an effort to make life simpler for the customer.

All part of the service

By News No Comments

We have a new service which we now offer to our customers across Cheshire. For just £5 we’ll supply a heavy duty tarpaulin so we can deliver your logs at any time of day in any weather and your firewood will stay dry. We’ll simply fit the tarpaulin for you so the logs will remain dry until you are back home or are ready to stack them.

We invest a lot of time to ensure our logs are supplied to you as dry and possible so it seems logical to us that they stay this way until you are ready to burn them.

New Trees Taking Root Nicely!

By News No Comments

12 months ago we planted an acre of woodland with a mixture of beech, silver birch and oak.  A year on we are pleased to say the trees are doing rather well with only a few casualties from the cold winter and then dry summer spell.  These have replaced an area of woodland that was once under-managed, offering very little benefits to either timber production or the wildlife population in the area.

The timber felled has been converted to logs for supply to the Cheshire area.  Consisting of a mixture of drying hardwood or overgrown softwood species, it has meant we have been able to supply more local logs to Cheshire customers but in turn rejuvenate a woodland habitat.
